The Age of AI: Why CodeVA’s Work Matters

CodeVA empowers students with AI literacy computer science education, ensuring they're prepared to shape a future impacted by artificial intelligence.

At CodeVA, we’ve always believed that access to computer science education is a right, not a privilege. But our mission has taken on new urgency and even greater promise in a world increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence.

A recent interview with Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei laid out a sobering forecast: within just five years, AI could eliminate 10–20% of entry-level white-collar jobs in the U.S. While that projection is alarming, it’s also clarifying. We are standing at a crossroads, and the path forward must be paved with preparation and purpose, not panic.

That’s why, since 2022, CodeVA has been leading the charge to bring AI literacy into Virginia’s schools. Our AI Pathway course is designed to introduce students to artificial intelligence and empower them to question it, build with it, and use it responsibly. It is part of a larger vision: to ensure that every student, regardless of zip code, background, or learning style, has the opportunity to understand the technologies shaping their future at a level far deeper than ever imagined.

But we’re not simply teaching students how to use AI or write code. We’re helping them develop the skills they’ll need to thrive in a world defined by complexity and change. Through our programs, students learn to collaborate across differences, wrestle with ethical questions, explore creative solutions to real-world problems, and build the confidence to lead. These qualities will matter most, not just in tomorrow’s job market, but in tomorrow’s communities.

This work is about hope. It’s about believing that by preparing all students, we can build a future where technology amplifies opportunity instead of erasing it. Where young people aren’t replaced by machines but are equipped to use them thoughtfully. And where students aren’t surviving the AI revolution; they shape it!

We know the road ahead won’t be easy and that transformation doesn’t happen accidentally.  It happens through vision, partnership, and persistent advocacy. That’s why CodeVA will continue to work hand-in-hand with educators, policymakers, and communities to ensure that Virginia leads the nation in equitable, forward-thinking computer science education.

We invite you to stand with us. Because when we invest in students, we invest in a future that works for everyone.
