Today's Webinar

Make-It Monday

Today, learn all about how Scratch and block based coding can help reach the Algorithms and Programming standards within the CS SOLs with facilitator Tiffany Cobbs!

Today's highlighted SOL Strand

Algorithms and Programming

CodeVA's pocket guides are a quick and easy way to see how an entire CS strand progresses across grades K-8. Each day of the CS Summit we will be highlighting a different strand that aligns with the daily themes.

Additional Resources

Make-It Monday

  • Google CS First - a free, web-based computer science program designed to help educators teach coding and computational thinking skills to students through engaging, project-based lessons using Scratch. Google CS First has full lessons and units ready for teachers to use!
  • Plant Life Cycle - 2nd grade students explore the stages and characteristics of plant life cycles. Using picture cards that show different plants and their life cycles, students use computational thinking to compare and sort plants based on shared features. They will then create a simple step-by-step algorithm to help classify plants by their life cycle attributes.
  • Amazon Future Engineer - Inspire your class with a free interactive tour on Amazon careers and STEM innovation.
  • Jared O'Leary's Scratch page - TVideo tutorials, tips and project starters
  • Micro:bit Make Code website - Beginner-friendly platform that allows users to create, test, and download code for the micro:bit device using block-based, JavaScript, or Python programming.
  • Roversa Robotics - Accessible, hands-on robotics solutions designed to inspire creativity and foster STEM learning through engaging, modular platforms for students and educators.
  • Strawbees - Strawbees with micro:bit integration combines hands-on building with coding, allowing students to create interactive, programmable projects using Strawbees' construction kits and the micro:bit microcontroller.
