Williamsburg - James City County Public Schools (2025-26)

WJCC came to us without a dedicated CS supervisor, or an existing model for integrating CS into core content. They had a team of Technology Integration Coaches (TICs) they wanted to build up and that was our starting point. Their ACSE-funded project, "Ctrl + Shift + Coach," used CodeVA's CS Ready partnership to build a structured professional learning system for those coaches.

CodeVA provided 18 hours of structured professional learning (Intro to CS Education, Coaching CS, and Curriculum Writing Workshops) working directly with TICs. The coaches then transitioned that learning into classrooms through coaching cycles with classroom teachers. The district led and owned the work; CodeVA served as the professional development and implementation planning partner behind it.

The goal was the same as our North Star for CS Ready - build up a small group of teachers who become confident leaders who can then extend that confidence to others.

Orange County Public Schools (2025-26)

Orange County took a teacher cohort approach. They used their ACSE grant to establish a division-wide cohort of CS teacher leaders - one representative from every school. CodeVA provided professional development, and each cohort teacher committed to developing and submitting three CS-integrated lesson plans and leading PD back at their home school.

This partnership used the "lead trainer" model as the goal - meaning one of the explicit outcomes was that cohort teachers would form the foundation of an ongoing professional learning community and support teachers at their buildings going forward. The division also used the grant to build a lesson repository aligned to the 2024 CS Standards, uploaded to GoOpenVA for statewide access.

CodeVA's role here was as a professional development provider, coach and curriculum writing partner, while Orange County owned the cohort structure and teacher relationships.
