Seasonal Programs

CodeVA currently has two seasonal programs that volunteers are able to join us for throughout the year, CodeVA’s Educator Engagement and CodeVA’s Eureka Workshop More information about each volunteer opportunity is available below.

Educator Engagement

CodeVA offers a variety of computer science professional development courses for current Virginia public school K-12 educators and other interested education professionals at no cost. We focus on deep content knowledge and CS teaching strategies delivered in an innovative and useful way. Computer science may be new to some schools, but to us it’s an established learning tool no matter what you teach.

Volunteers for Educator Engagement programs are assigned to a class, and provide IT support to facilitators and teachers during Live Sessions. Volunteers are required to sign up for all Live sessions for the class they choose to volunteer for. All volunteers receive basic training prior to all sessions through a zoom session  with volunteer coordinator, coffee lounge access, and faciliator/vounteer email correspondence.

Eureka Workshop

Eureka Workshop is the student programming arm of our organization. It aids CodeVA’s mission in getting students (and their parents) excited about computational thinking and the theories behind Computer Science. Our arts-integrated student programs, both Richmond summer camps and after-school classes, engage students in learning computer science and also provide a lab for teachers to test out new lesson ideas and teaching strategies.

Volunteers for Eureka Workshop offer a pivotal role in providing Eureka instructors with support during the workshop. Volunteers help instructors prepare for class, organize supplies or classroom, help students understand concepts and assist students with their activities. Volunteers receive a pre-event orientation to go over our Volunteer Handbook guidelines and policies, along with any interactive modules used for teaching.
